Other Hobbies
In addition
to music and astronomy, I have several other hobbies. One of my biggest is
NASCAR Nextel Cup racing. I'm a fan of several drivers, but my two
favorites are Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
I've been to the 1988 Daytona 500, the 1990 Daytona 500, the 1999 Winston
500, the 2002 Pepsi 400, and the 2005 UAW-GM Quality 500.
I’ve also enjoyed collecting pens since the late
1980s…not cheap, disposable pens, but nicer pens, such as Cross,
Parker, Montblanc, etc. That collection includes
a variety of fountain pens. I have modern and vintage fountain pens, and I
enjoy using them. I much prefer them over ballpoints and even rollerball/gel pens.
Something else I enjoy is shooting my guns. I don't get to
do this as often as I'd like, but I enjoy it a lot. I have a .357 Magnum, a
.45 Colt, and an SAR-1. My dad is a gun collector, so I picked up my
interest in guns because of him.
Horror movies have always intrigued me. I like everything
from old Dracula movies to poorly-acted slasher
films to psychological thrillers. I really enjoy the silent classic Nosferatu,
which was the first Dracula movie. I also like the 1931 version of Dracula starring Bela
Lugosi, as well as the Hammer classics from the 1960s and 1970s starring
Christopher Lee. My favorite horror movie is Halloween, and Halloween
II comes in a close second. Other than Dracula, my favorite
horror villain is Michael Myers.
Ever since I was a child, I've enjoyed reading. Because
astronomy is a major hobby of mine, most of my reading time is spent with
astronomy books and magazines. Other materials I enjoy are nonfiction crime
books, books relating to music or musical instruments, and even old Richie
Rich comic books.
I've loved video games for many years, also. Among my Atari
2600, Nintendo Entertainment System, Playstation
2, and PC, I have plenty of platforms for video games. I enjoy simulation
games like The Sims and Flight Simulator, and I also like
racing games. However, one of my favorite games is Grand Theft Auto - Vice City.
Finally, I've enjoyed working with Web sites and graphics
for several years. I taught myself HTML and Web design, and I also taught
myself programs such as Photoshop and Flash. Now that graphic design is my
profession, I can really learn more about what I do and become better at
it.
